On Monday, General Mills surprised Mercy Hospital with a $20,000 donation for the hospital’s Ronald McDonald family room.

“This money goes to meeting the needs of the families that spend time here, some of them for weeks at a time, so it’s a great benefit to us,” Mercy Clinic NWA President Dr. Steve Goss said.

General Mills raised funds for the donation through an employee led contest to celebrate the company’s 150th anniversary.

According to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkoma’s website, the family room at Mercy Hospital includes four bedrooms, a laundry room, two and a half bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, reading room, living room and playroom. The 3,600 square foot space acts as a home-away-from-home for families of sick children and is available for daytime visitors and overnight guests. All amenities and more are offered at no cost.
