At what point do we realize it becomes less important to have a ton of friends and more important to have real ones? When Shannon Holley and Betty Julian lost their close friend Sue Larson to ALS more than 10 years ago, they vowed to carry on the fight against the awful disease in honor of Sue. Today the ALS Association is alive and well in Northwest Arkansas and much to these women’s credit, the organization continues to grow and thrive.

Shannon and her husband Charles opened their home to host an ALS sponsor appreciation reception. Executive Director Jennifer Necessary thanked sponsors and guests, and got teary-eyed when talking about those (who the ALS organization calls pALS) directly affected by the disease. Guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres catered from Ruth’s Chris Steak House, as well as cocktails and sweet treats. Mark your calendars for the annual ALS Walk on Saturday, August 27 at Lawrence Plaza in Bentonville. For more information, visit www.als-arkansas.org.
