What: 2012 Annual Benefit

When and where: August 16 at the Embassy Suites in Rogers

Single Parent Scholarship Fund of Benton County celebrated 28 years of providing scholarship assistance to single parents living in Benton County last night at the Embassy Suites in Rogers. The 2012 Annual Benefit, presented by Walmart-Sam’s Club and Arvest, celebrated the achievements of single parent students and 28 years of “Enriching Lives and the Community”.

150 single parent students were presented with their fall scholarships and recognized for their academic achievements. Students who excel in leadership, volunteerism, and overcoming barriers and challenges received special awards.  Guest speakers included Sherri Hoover (current student), Nichole Mannion (alumni), and Nichole’s son Chandler Morris, who grew up in the program. This celebration provided an opportunity for donors, volunteers, and community leaders to hear first-hand the impact their contributions make in the lives of single parents and their families.

Representatives from Women in Networking of Northwest Arkansas were also on hand to present the organization with a $2,500 check to continue their mission of  offering a hand-up to single parents seeking a college or technical school degree in order to gain the education they need to become self-sufficient.
