The Symphony of Northwest Arkansas (SoNA) is pleased to announce auditions for the SoNA Singers, an auditioned group of the region’s best choral singers. Led by Director Terry Hicks — one of Arkansas’ most respected choral conductors — this ensemble performs choral works, both a cappella and with orchestral accompaniment. It also serves as the anchor of the larger SoNA Chorale, which performs choral masterworks with the Symphony, conducted by SoNA Music Director Paul Haas.

The 2013-14 SoNA Singers will perform at SoNA’s Christmas Concert on December 14, and at the Masterworks II concert on March 8 featuring Brahms’ A German Requiem, as well as their own concert of choral music. Rehearsals will be held weekly on Sunday afternoons.

Audition dates are September 28 and October 1, 2013.

• One solo (oratorio, aria, or art song preferred)

• Pitch memory exercises

• Intervals

• Scales (major and minor)

About Terry Hicks, SoNA Singers Director

Terry Hicks is in his twenty-third year as Head Choral Director at Bentonville High School (BHS). Terry holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, and a Masters in Music Education degree from the University of Arkansas. He has had the opportunity to observe Robert Shaw at the Robert Shaw Choral Institute at Furman University in Greenville, SC, and to sing in the Robert Shaw Choral Workshop in New York City under the baton of Charles Dutoit in Carnegie Hall. He has also worked with René Clausen through the René Clausen Choral School. Under Terry’s direction, the choirs at Bentonville High School have received numerous awards and have toured and performed in prestigious venues throughout the U.S.
